Please contact us if you have been required to provide genetic data in Illinois. This is often done by an employer or insurance company. Certain employers require physical exams, in the course of which a medical history is taken not only of employees but their families. Insurance companies also have been known to request medical information of family members on applications or in connection with physical examinations. Asking for a family history of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other conditions which are genetically transmitted or which one may be predisposed to contract based on genetic transmission may violate the Illinois Genetic Information Privacy Act.
